Lately, I started to feel this pull towards being more aware of how much single-use plastic I was purchasing, and ultimately throwing away. I’ve always been a little bit of a hippie at heart and have a desire to do my part to reduce my waste and help our beautiful planet.
I decided to start on a more sustainable lifestyle by overhauling what I buy as far as cleaning products, beauty & skincare, groceries, and household items. If you’re just getting started I suggest taking baby steps. For me, cleaning products was one of those first baby steps was finding new and more sustainable ways to buy or DIY cleaning supplies.
Let me just say, there are quite a few great options out there and there are definitely more brands than what I am mentioning here but after doing all my research these are the best sustainable cleaning products for me and my family’s needs.
Supernatural
My packaging design-loving heart burst when I found this brand. Supernatural is a non-toxic, refillable cleaning supply company that carries everything from glass cleaner to stainless steel cleaner. If the aesthetic of their brand/packaging isn’t making you itch to buy then you’ll love the fact that their glass spray bottles are refillable. Simply add the little glass concentrate bottles to your spray bottle with some filtered water and clean your heart out baby.
The question you’re probably asking is, do they really work? And the answer is yes! The glass cleaner gave my mirrors a streak-free shine and the bathroom/tile cleaner cut through the soap scum in my bathtub like it was nothing. Not only do they work but they smell lovely. After cleaning my bathrooms my entire house smelled so nice and fresh. It was nice being able to deep clean without having to worry about toxic fumes or protecting my skin with gloves.
They also offer a zero waste powdered hand soap that comes in a gorgeous metal shaker with your choice of copper, brass or nickel. As well as several essential oils for diffusing.
It’s a bit of an initial investment to purchase the spray bottles but SO worth it in my opinion! You’re going to love the way they look, the way they smell, the way they clean, and the way that they are a truly Supernatural sustainable cleaning product!
With the link below you’ll get $25 off your first purchase of $50 or more!
Blueland
Blueland is another excellent choice as far as the best sustainable cleaning products go. They offer all kinds of cleaning products that are refillable, zero waste, and good for the environment. I fell in love with their dishwasher tablets and their laundry products.
I’m SO glad that I’ve ditched those giant plastic laundry soap containers and the dishwasher tablets that contain god only knows what. For laundry, Blueland offers a few different products — laundry detergent tablets and laundry oxi boost powder. Both come in these adorable reusable tin canisters. When you need more the refills come in a recyclable paper bag, win!
They also offer wool laundry balls that help your dryer to be more efficient and replace your fabric softener sheets with are often made from polyester which does not break down.
The same goes for their dishwasher detergent. It comes in this nifty little reusable tin to hold your dishwasher tabs. They also offer a powdered dish soap option which I decided wasn’t for me, I’ll share more in a bit about how I switched over to solid dish soap instead.
Blueland also offers refillable glass spray bottles similar to Supernatural and I like their concept, just didn’t fall in love with the bottles quite like I did with Supernaturals.
Amazon
Amazon has some good options as far as the essentials of sustainable cleaning products goes. Here are a few of the first things I ordered as I’m starting this zero waste journey.
These adorable cleaning brushes
are all made from natural materials and are so affordable! As of the time of writing this post the 5 piece set is only $21. I think thats a great deal for something that gives my kitchen that farmhouse aesthetic and is also great for the planet!
As part of lowing my single-use plastic consumption, I also am straying away from regular dish soap. There are lots of alternatives out there but this one was so easily accessible and inexpensive. This Vegan Dish Block from No Tox Life is perfect for my new natural brushes. Of course if you’re switching to a solid dish soap you’ll probably want some kind of a soap dish. I scoured Amazon for my favorite. There were a lot of fun bamboo options but when I came across this Rainbow Stoneware Soap Dish I had to get it.
Time for some Sustainable Cleaning!
I hope these ideas for products and brands to incorporate into your sustainable cleaning products help you to not only clean up your house but clean up our planet as well!
